The buoyancy on the eyes on these flies give a unique action in the water.  The original method of fishing booby flies is on a sinking line with a short leader, allowing the line to sink and then retrieve with sharp pulls, pausing between to induce the fish to take.  They can also be fished as part of a team of flies using the washing line method.
